The ViewLeicester Review
Fusion isn't some affected name this venue adopted because it was a trendy word five years ago.
Here, a cafe merges into a bar effortlessly, offering tasty snacks in the day and plenty of alcoholic drinks in the evening.
The Venue
Fusion looks rather funky. It's entirely covered in pink and purple, and some walls are even sprinkled with glitter. The ground floor is more sober, with large windows, tall stools, the bar, and tables made of polished stones and a column covered in mirrors.
It's hard to have lunch on the upstairs floor without feeling slightly out of place so strong is the party theme.
There are futuristic white lamps hanging above the stairs, angular benches in pink purple and white with an 80s pattern, more stools and stone surfaces. It all screams party!
The People
The crowd tends to be the same for lunch and drinks. They leave after lunch only to reappear at 6pm. At midday, Fusion fills up with couples, young businessmen coming for a quick bite, and small groups of girls. In the evening, the same groups troop in here for a drink, plus there are often private parties.
They usually play chilled contemporary music but every Wednesday you'll hear Latin tunes as they have a regular salsa class (£5 or £4 NUS).
The Food
Despite the name, fusion cuisine isn't on the menu. Instead, they serve tried and tested dishes including jacket potatoes (£2 to £3) with all the usual toppings, salads (£2.70), sandwiches, bagels, baps, ciabatta breads and baguettes (£1 to £2.90), breakfast (£1 to £2.10) and daily specials (£3.25) which include bloomer sandwiches filled to the brim.
The most interesting options are the curried chicken and sweet chili sauce jacket potato, the caprese sandwich with tomato and mozzarella and the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel.
The Drink
There is no proper drink list but have a look around the bar and you'll discover quite a few good things hidden in the fridges. They serve Grolsch Blonde and regular Grolsch on draught for only £2, Fullers Honey Dew and London Pride, Sol and others.
At night, Fusion is a very cheap watering hole. Their house shots are only £1, you can get three Bacardi Breezers for £5, two San Miguel for £5, Jaegermeister for £2, fishbowls for £9 or two for £15. Don't expect the glamourous drinking of a cocktail bar, come prepared for more straightforward options.
The Last Word
Fusion is good for a quick, cheap lunch and for a cool evening drink in a slightly 80s styled bar. Any girly girl who played with Barbie will love this place.
