The ViewLeicester Review
The skittle table and the popular karaoke are the only highlights of this otherwise unremarkable pub. For some people, though, this is exactly the perfect place where to have a pint.
The Venue
The fountain is a long room flanking a pretty garden: at first sight, you would think that you can have your drink sitting nearby the luscious bushes but that is only an optical illusion, since The Fountain has no access to any garden.
The pub has traditional pub furniture, drawings of horses hanging from the walls and game machines: these cannot disguise that The Fountain is a recent pub where no effort has been pub in nice décor. The toilets are located right at the end of the long room and this is never a good idea since smells travel quickly. All in all, the place is just not particularly nice.
The Atmosphere
The skittle table at the back is old and it has seen better days, probably twenty years ago or so. However, it is an unusual element in pubs nowadays and it somewhat the tourist attraction of The Fountain. After a couple of glances at it, you will think the trip was not worth. At least, the karaoke is truly popular! You may not enjoy this one either though, especially if you don not fit in with the crowd of regulars: there is nobody under forty here and most are men who are actually above fifty. The place is rather loud: it is in part because of the TV showing sport events and in part because of the music. Ether way, The Fountain does not classify as a quiet pub.
The Drink
They have at least put some effort in the selection of beers: they have bottles Tyskie, Holsten, American Budweiser and draughts of San Miguel, Guinness Red and Guinness Extra Cold, Worthingtons and the usual suspects. Most patrons do not seem to care much, tough, and are happy to pick the cheapest lager available.
The Last Word
The karaoke is truly popular here. However, it is not a reason good enough to visit The Fountain: you simply have better places just across the street. However, if you are looking for peers and you are in the 40+ age group, this could be a place where to start talking to strangers.
